The Full Moon and the clouds
I have been trying to capture the full moon behind this tree in Hadley, MA, for a few years. While the moon lines up here nicely, either life gets in the way or, more often, clouds. When I woke up at 5 am on March 6th, I saw clear skies and jumped in my car. On my way to the tree, I saw a dreaded low bank of clouds to the northwest, where the moon was setting. My previous excitement faded quickly. But I was already up and halfway there, so I kept going, knowing at the worst, I would get some nice light on the tree and the dreaded clouds before grabbing a coffee at Shelburn Falls Roasters to reward myself for the early start.
When I arrived, the moon was still visible, so I exited the car and set up my camera. My Sony A7iv and the 200-600 lens are perfect for telephoto moon shots. I dialed in my settings and got a few images that I love. The clouds ended up adding interest to the blue hour sky, and while it did block the moon as it moved behind the tree, I had a smile on my face while I sipped my dark roast coffee.
